Programs

St. James is an historic and yet growing faith community. Our programs are rooted in strong family ties with deep faith and Community Spirit.

Education

Primary to every communtiy is education. At St. James we provide religious education for our children, teens, young adults, and adults.

    The Parish School of Religion

(PSR) enrolls youngsters from kindergarten to 8th grade.
    Students:  103     Teachers:  9      Aides:  11       Adm:  3

For a parish of 380 families we thank God for such tremendeous involvement and concern for the education of our youngsters.

The PSR meets every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:15pm during the months of September to the middle of May.

The R.C.I.A Program : is a program for converts and unbaptized persons who wish to join the Catholic Church. We meet on the last two Mondays of the month from September to Easter at 7:00pm. We welcome anyone interested in more information. Just call 573-438-4686. This year we have 3 members, the norm in recent years.

Adult Education: Adult education seminars and series are given during the season of Lent and are usually 3-4 nights. Information on these sessions can be obtained from the Parish Rectory at 573-438-4686.

    Other Essential Programs

The St.Vincent DePaul Society is a group of men and women who care for the needs of the poor.   The major work carried on by the society at St. James is the food pantry.

The society meets once a month on the first Monday at 7:00pm. The discussion includes the planning for the distribution of food which takes place on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8-11am.

The Ladies Sodality (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) is the major organization for women.   Meeting once a month on the first tuesday, they plan and discuss many projects for the Parish.   The major activity of the sodality is the maintenance of the Liturgical vestments, vessels, and altar supplies used in Worship.

In Ministering to the parish, the Sodality prepares luncheons for families having a funeral.

The major fund raiser for the Sodality is the Lenten Fish Fry on three of the Fridays of Lent.

All women are invited to belong to the Sodality. Simply call the rectory and we will be glad to assist you.

The Ushers Guild is the Hospitality and Transportation organization.  The Guild greets worshippers as they enter the Church and assists them in being seated along with seeing to any needs that they may have.  They are especially helpful to handicapped worshippers.

Worshippers who wish to attend Mass yet for one reason or another have difficulty with transportation may have one of the ushers who is also a Van driver pick them up for either the 5:30 Mass on Saturday (Hwy 8 and Mineral Point) or the 10:00am Mass Sunday (Town).

Our Yearly Picnic has a twofold purpose :  A large gathering of both parishioners and non parishioners for a day of FUN and It is the major fund raiser for the parish.  The success of the picnic comes from the almost 150 people who work to make it a success.

The Parish Picnic is Always on the 2nd Sunday of June (pray for good weather).

The Lenten Fish Fries are given three(3) times during Lent. They are on the alternate fridays with the Knights of Columbus in Old Mines.

The menu consists of fish/shrimp, hush puppies, spaghetti, baked beans, dessert, and beverage. All this at the best price in town.

Parish Gatherings and dinners occur throughout the year and are open to everyone .  It is our goal as the people of God to Gather in Fellowship and Joy expressing our Christian dignity.

Keep abreast of our gatherings through the parish bulletin, flyers and the community newspaper.
